I'm a junior/senior, what about me?

Great news!

This year we have expanded

to include Juniors

and Seniors.

How are mentors selected and trained?

Mentors are local young professional and college students trained to be professional coaches that help the girls develop concrete goals and sustain their development. They are taught developmentally appropriate language to foster self-efficacy and model how the girls can articulate their goals and enact them.

What do you mean by self-knowledge, critical thinking, and empathy?

SELF-KNOWLEDGE

The radical acceptance of who I am; learning how to grow more authentically myself with my strengths and limitations and learning through practice when to ask for help and when to persevere on my own

CRITICAL THINKING

The skill of thinking through issues completely, working to gain perspective so I can objectively evaluate a situation, understand it thoroughly, including my subjective response to it, and then respond authentically, in light of the truth I have discovered.

EMPATHY

Learning to look outward and put myself in someone else’s shoes; the capacity to understand what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference

Do you have any programs for Beacon parents?

Stay tuned! We plan to have activities for Beacon parents.

In the meantime, there are many activities for women available at Cedar Wood: you can find more information at

www.cedarwoodfoundation.org.

Can I get a scholarship to participate in Beacon?

We do have a limited number of scholarships that we award on the basis of financial need. If you would like more information, please contact us at

beaconleadershipboston@gmail.com

If you would like to sponsor a scholarship, we welcome tax-deductible donations to our scholarship fund.

What is Beacon’s phone policy?

To maintain a professional environment during the monthly workshops, we will collect all cell phones in a basket at the entrance.

If there is an emergency, you are welcome to call Cedar Wood Center at 617-244-8994.

I missed the September session. Can I still apply?

You can still apply! We will continue accepting applications through October 31, so long as there is space available.

Since Beacon's curriculum is formulated as a year-long program, we do not otherwise accept mid-year applications. Applications open in May for the following school year.
